Powerful Market Women

The Ghanaian market women are powerful traders, and they control all the markets. Many of these women travel every week to far places for the weekly markets. They may travel from Accra to northern Ghana and back every week. Young women from the North also work as head porters called Kayayei in the coastal towns and villages. They often carry some incredibly heavy loads, especially when they work in yam, fish or cloths markets.
I keep exploring the different markets in and outside of Accra. Each of them looks different depending on what is sold, including fruits, vegetables, fish, yam, or cloths.
