African Traditional Churches

Christianity is the largest religion in southern Ghana, with many different denominations across the country.
Some small, independent African churches are strongly influenced by traditional beliefs. As in African belief systems, healing rituals and prophecies play an important role in their worship.
I regularly attend some of these churches. I am interested in observing how they worship and how their rituals relate to the traditional beliefs I have seen in some religious cult groups in southern Ghana. My contacts with different priests and priestesses also help me obtain permits to take photographs in some churches.
